6th Street
The 6th Street Corridor Complete Street Improvement project will convert the existing five vehicular travel lanes into a two-way Complete Street with two vehicle travel lanes, parallel parking lanes, 8-feet wide walkways, tree and landscaping areas, and an 8-feet wide, two-way separated bike lane. By advancing the community-driven 6th Street master plan, we can better activate our historic Main Street, strengthen the link between two major regional trails, encourage reduced pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, foster sustainable economic development and resiliency for small businesses north of the river, and create a more welcoming space for all.

North Landing
Immediately adjacent to the pedestrian bridge, North Landing is a 16,300 square foot area (.37 acres) that was the former landing of the old vehicular Grand Avenue Bridge on 6th Street. To serve as a gathering space for North Glenwood residents and visitors, this city-owned space can be converted, in whole or in part, to a public park and plaza . This new space will be at the crossroad of major pedestrian and bicycle routes which connect the 6th Street corridor with the Glenwood Canyon Trail and downtown.

Pay as You Throw
The “Pay As You Throw” trash and recycling collection program will be a city-wide program for single-family residences and multi-family units of seven or less. Collection cost is based on how much you recycle and how much you throw away. The less you waste, the less you'll pay. The core goals of this program are to reduce truck traffic on our streets, increase correct recycling, reduce the number of recyclables being thrown away, and incentivize overall waste reduction.

Roaring Fork Pump Station
The Roaring Fork Pump Station project is to construct a secondary supply pipe from the Roaring Fork Pump Station to the Red Mountain Plant and mixing vault at the plant. This 24” diameter line will create a redundant line to the plant from the pump station which will help make the City more drought resistant in the future by providing three sources of water to the system instead of one or two and will allow for maintenance of the raw water lines to the water treatment plant.

South Canyon Management Plan
Located west of Glenwood Springs, South Canyon is an area of City-owned land with approximately 3,000 acres of designated parkland. This public land encompasses the City landfill, a shooting range, and unmanaged open space. South Canyon is the site of a set of undeveloped hot springs pools (a.k.a. the “Hippy Hot Springs”) where locals venture despite potential health risks. The City also has concerns about illegal camping and potential fire hazards in the canyon.

Transportation Demand Management
The City is working to develop a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Plan in coordination with citizens and businesses. The core TDM Plan goal is to reduce single-occupancy auto trips in town by maximizing traveler choices. This can be accomplished by improving mobility options and infrastructure (transit, biking, walking, ride-sharing), providing incentives, information, and/or policy changes to encourage and help individuals modify their travel behavior. The TDM plan would work to reduce overall costs across the system, cost of highway closures and any potential needs for capacity or safety improvements, costs of accidents, and commuting costs
