Glenwood Springs Police VehiclesThe City of Glenwood Springs is located at the juncture of the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. Glenwood Springs is a busy town of just under 10,000 people that serves as the business center of the rapidly growing Garfield County area. With daily work force and tourist populations, the Police Department services a population of approximately 12,000 to 15,000 people, with that number increasing during the busy summer months.

Police Opportunities

The Department strives to be progressive in its pursuit of training and programs, offering Officer participation in/as:

  • All Hazards Response Team
  • Drug Recognition Expert
  • K-9 Unit
  • School Resource Officer

The Department also encourages Officers to achieve Instructor status in Police-related fields.

Staff

The Police Department has 34 authorized positions. These positions consist of:

  • Community Response Officers (Code Enforcement/Parking Control)
  • Detectives
  • Lieutenant who oversees Administrative Services
  • Lieutenants who oversees Field Operations
  • Patrol Officers
  • Professional Support personnel
  • School Resource Officer

Patrol Duties

The sworn personnel are primarily patrol oriented, with a strong Investigations Division who regularly support patrol functions. Our Patrol personnel are expected to

  • Be trained and mentored to become well-rounded officers with the ability to provide comprehensive service to our community and visitors alike
  • Become certified in the Intoxilyzer and Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs)
  • Handle a wide variety of call-types, from a barking dog complaint to shots fired call
